The capital city of Moscow is a primate city in the spatial context of the vast landmass of the Russian Federation. It wants to become a World City. Will it succeed?
As a planning practitioner based in Amsterdam Zef Hemel was involved in some major planning efforts in the Moscow region over the last years that wanted to foster this ambition. At the University of Amsterdam he reflected on his experience with the help of many students during the program 'Cities in Transition', organized by the Center for Urban Studies. In his lecture he will share his views on the future Moscow, based on his theoretical thoughts of cities functioning as 'brains'.
